La Valencia delivers. The location is ultra-walkable to downtown La Jolla, shopping, dining, and scenic walk to the cove. We booked an ocean-view suite sight unseen. Upon check-in, we were surprised there was no balcony and I would call our view "parking/rooftop view with ocean behind and to the far right"...but.... here is the good stuff. The Cove is a nice walk away down on-property stairs and an access controlled street gate. A huge park is between the hotel and the ocean. It is a nice place to walk and check out the sea lions. Lots of restaurants, hair salons, shopping, ice cream, and dining within a close walk. We went to the hotel table seating room for drinks and small bites. Had a few excellent rum runners and also got shrimp cocktail, hummus, and charcuterie. All excellent. Room was ready over an hour early which was nice. We had to check out super early 04:30 and valet parked our car out front...super convenient and much appreciated. Suite: decent, comfy, single sink and single restroom, no balcony, oceanview technically correct but not an amazing view. Room could have been cleaner. Shoes stuck to the floor in some spots. Clean and comfy bed. Dining/drinks: 10 out of 10. Fun date location with the wife. Got to chill and unwind with great drinks and bites. Location: crazy good. Service: great

La Valencia Hotel is nothing short of magical. Perfectly perched right on the bay, the views from my room were absolutely breathtaking. The staff was phenomenal—clearly well-trained and truly dedicated to making my stay perfect. They handled every (and I mean every) crazy request I had with a smile. There was a stunning wedding happening right outside my window during my visit, and the entire atmosphere felt straight out of a movie. The food? Top-notch—every bite was memorable. If you're looking for a luxurious getaway with unbeatable scenery and five-star service, this is the place. Can't wait to come back!

Smells like vacation, feels like vacation

What can you say about this historic Hotel just across that street from one of the best coastal views in California. Love everything about this Hotel.

Beautiful Wedding Hotel - Extraordinary Ocean Views - Exceptional Service - Amazing Banquet!

10/10 7/23/25 Update We recently returned for another visit. The stay was wonderful as usual, but this time we enjoyed the pool. Tina took such good care of us. She provided the perfect level of service. She was attentive but not obtrusive. If I have one recommendation for management, I think an updated sound system would really be nice, and I don’t like loud music, just nice background tunes. Thanks again for a wonderful stay 🩷 La Valencia is beautiful. The valet staff was very friendly upon arrival. Then we met Ana at registration. She was a sweetheart. She’s knowledgeable, efficient, and seemed excited to have us arrive. The beds were super comfortable and the room was perfectly clean. Joey at the front desk saved us later at night by finding a wine opener and opening a bottle of wine, haha. We had brunch with Santa in the Mediterranean Room the following day. Wow, best Santa ever! Michelle was our server and treated us very well. She was thoughtful and attentive. We had a large party and ordered just about everything on the menu. Everyone’s food was delicious. The Christmas decor throughout the hotel was beautiful. Everyone in the restaurant, bar, lobby, and patio seemed to be enjoying the festive atmosphere. What a joy to visit the La Valencia! We can’t wait to go back.

Excelente place in la joya close by the beach

We stopped by to have an afternoon cocktail and sat in the inside of the bar in front of the picture window overlooking La Jolla Cove. The cocktails and the service were wonderful. It was a good start to a great afternoon!

A Unique and Dog-Friendly Gem The staff at La Valencia are incredibly kind, professional, and respectful. This hotel is truly dog-friendly — at check-in they even put my dog’s name on the reservation, which made us feel so welcome. They even have a special dog menu! The food is beautifully presented, and the architecture is stunning, with traditional Spanish touches and gorgeous ceramic tiles on the walls. It feels like a one-of-a-kind place, full of charm and character. Totally recommendable for anyone visiting La Jolla.

Wonderful stay. A beautiful historical hotel. Happy Hour at Whaling Bar is very nice.
