The circa 1926 pink landmark that has become synonymous with La Jolla, La Valencia Hotel, announces a celebration to commemorate her 90th birthday. In a countdown from the current decade to 1926 – music, menus and events are planned culminating in a Roaring 20’s Great Gatsby Gala on December 15th which will benefit a local charity, TBA.

The celebration journey includes a 10-month countdown designed to commemorate each decade of the hotel’s amazing story.

• In a whimsical, modern tribute to the hotel’s moniker of “The Pink Lady,” throughout the next nine months, the hotel will capture themed images of a capricious young San Diego stylemaker from the past to the present. “The Pink Lady” model will be photographed amid classic property settings in the fashion of each decade.

• Each month La V’s restaurant & lounge menus will feature “Craft Cocktail of the Decade” as well as intriguing antidotes about the hotel during the last 90 years. THE MED Ocean view Restaurant will offer a 3-course prix fixe menu for two priced at $90, highlighting the cuisine of each decade that is being celebrated.

Hot Pink at 90 Celebration Experience  – It’s her birthday, but the Pink Lady is giving you the gift this time. This special, two-night package includes a commemorative gift, a house crafted welcome amenity from our kitchen, and a Craft Cocktail of the Month or Pink Lady Martini for 2 each night of your stay and complimentary parking.

• A December Great Gatsby style Roaring 20’s Gala – honoring the decade La V debuted – to benefit a soon-to-be-announced San Diego Charity.

Cocktail of the Month/Decade: Farm Fresh Fennel Cucumber Gimlet - $12

2010 - Present: San Diego-based Pacifica Host Hotels purchases La Valencia in 2011 and embarks on a multi-million dollar renovation and restoration. In 2015, La V announces the Icon Collection including the Sky, Pacific and La Valencia signature suites.

MAY: 1990 - 1999

Cosmopolitan - $12
Reinvented from the popular Sex and the City show on HBO. Hangar One Mandarin, Grand Marnier, Cranberry Juice, Lime.

What Happened at La V: 
Musical theater production RENT premiers at La Jolla Playhouse and later debuts on Broadway, winning Tony Award for Best Musical. La V debuts al fresco ocean view dining off La Sala sun terrace.

JUNE: 1980 - 1989

Cocktail of the Month/Decade:
Tequila Sunset - $12
It’s all about the Sunset in La Jolla! This retro cocktail is made with Don Julio tequila, fresh squeezed orange juice, 
candied orange slices and fresh cherry puree.

What Happened at La V:
La Jolla dining history is made when the Mediterranean Room (now THE MED) opens off the main lobby in the Sevilla Wing and is soon famous for its signature Paella.

JULY: 1970 - 1979

What Happened at La V:
A 6,000 acre section of La Jolla Cove – complete with kelp forests and underwater caves – officially designated an underwater park and ecological reserve, making it a mecca for nature lovers, kayakers, swimmers, snorkelers and scuba divers.

What Happened at La V:
In the late 1960's, La V converts the 10th floor Tower sundeck to the Skyroom Restaurant -- with arguably the best ocean view in SoCal and waiters with the best legs, from walking up the ÿre escape to deliver hot food from the kitchen.

What Happened at La V:
The hotel acquires the 1908 Irving Gill designed Cabrillo Hotel and annex's it to the property. Author Raymond Chandler hangs out in Café La Rue and the Whaling Bar. La Jolla resident Theodor Seuss Geisel publishes The Cat in the Hat in 1954 and visitors can still see the inspirational “Lorax Tree” standing in Scripps Park.
