Welcome! My name is Tanya Schmidt and I am the Cicerone for La Valencia.  I am originally from Denver, CO however; I grew up all over the US. I recently landed here in San Diego after graduating from University of Central Florida in May 2011.  In college I took a special interest in fermented beverages which quickly developed into a passion.

After taking all the wine tasting and oenology courses, I decided to try the beer culture and quality brewing course.  I could not have made a better decision.  I fell in love with beer, beer culture and beer history—I joined a local brewers club and began brewing. My 3^rd batch of “Intentionally Witty” a Belgian Wit style beer is currently fermenting and will be ready to bottle soon!

It’s exciting to live in a city where Craft Brewing has become a part of the culture, and I am honored to be a apart of bringing these treasures of local breweries to the to the taps of La Valencia. I look forward to sharing the passion and knowledge of craft beer through our brand new beer and artisan cheese tasting program in the Whaling Bar & Grill debuting next Tuesday, April 24th.
